CHINA
FACT SHEET
Tell me about
the children from China who need families.
There are mostly baby girls, but older girls are also available. Manyof
the children we place will exhibit developmental delays due to living
in an orphanage. Children with minor special needs also need homes.
All children are screened for HIV and Hepatitis B.
How long will
the process take?
A lot of this depends on you. Most families can get their home study
and dossier papers together in two to three months; others take much
longer. Golden Cradle staff will help you create the dossier.
Once your whole dossier arrives in Beijing, it will pass through three
stages at the China Center of Adoption Affairs. The last stage, the
referral stage, is reached approximately 36 months after it arrives.
After acceptance of your referral, travel takes place in 6-8 weeks.
How am I matched
with a child?
The match is made by the China Center of Adoption Affairs in Beijing,
China. The CCAA will send the referral to CASI by Federal Express, and
we will call you upon its arrival. We firmly believe that the right
child is out there for you. If, for whatever reason, you determine that
the child is not appropriate, we will contact the CCAA and wait for
another referral. This may take up to another 6 months. Our goal is
the same as yours, to find the right child for your family and the right
family for each child.
Do I need to
travel to China to pick up my child?
Yes, but only one parent is required to travel. The average stay in
China is 1-2 weeks.
Do I qualify
to adopt from China?
China will work with couples. For healthy baby girls the CCAA requires
that you be between 30-50 years old. For those outside of these parameters,
the CCAA will place an older child, (over 18 months of age) or a child
with special needs.
Can I adopt more
than one child at a time?
No.
