GUATEMALA FACT SHEET - Currently Closed

Tell me about the children from Guatemala who need families.
These are infants; most less than 6 months of age living in supervised foster care homes. The birth parents have already (or are in the process of) ending their parental rights under Guatemala law. These babies are being cared for by private child welfare parties and are not part of the State run child welfare system.

How long will the process take?
A lot of this depends on you. Most families can get their home study and dossier papers together in two to three months; others take much longer. Golden Cradle staff will help you create your dossier. Once completed the dossier is sent to Guatemala for matching with a child available for placement.

How am I matched with a child?
Golden Cradle/CASI receives pictures, medical reports, and videos. Based on your preferences a child will be referred to you. We take this task very seriously. We firmly believe that the right child is out there for you. If, for whatever reason, you determine that the referral is not appropriate, we will immediately look for another possibility. Our goal is the same as yours, to find the right child for your family and the right family for each child.

Do I need to travel to pick up my child?
Yes - it is one short (3-5 days) trip.

Do I qualify to adopt from Guatemala?
Guatemala will work with single women and couples.

Can I adopt more than one child at a time?
No.
