     Women who call to ask about our services often want to know how we choose couples to participate in our adoption program. We can assure them that our couples are carefully screened and receive extensive education about parenting and adoption as a lifelong experience.

     Three times a year, we invite a selected number of couples to join us for a series of orientation and educational programs. Among other things, these couples hear birthmothers talk about how and why they made adoption plans, and what their experiences have been like. They become sensitive to birthparents' situations and feelings, and later, can talk sympathetically to their children about their birthparents. They also hear from other couples about what it is like to parent a child whom they had adopted. At some point, many couples have the opportunity to host a birthmother in their homes, further opening channels of communication and enhancing their understanding of birthparents for the future.

     Couples are checked for criminal record, as well as screened for histories of child abuse. Their fingerprints are taken by Golden Cradle and then cleared through the State of New Jersey and the FBI. Therefore, you can be assured that your baby will be safe with any of our families seeking to adopt.
