Couples are then asked to write autobiographies, which helps them think about their lives. They search themselves and write about what it was like for them growing up and what they hope for, for themselves and for a child. A social worker visits the family in their home and explores all of these things, plus, the couple's work histories, physical and emotional health, financial situation and personal relationships. In addition, they meet with a small group of other prospective parents to talk about parenting a child by adoption. They also must be certified in infant and child CPR. After the home study has been approved, the couple is considered "ready and waiting" for a child.

Most couples accepted by Golden Cradle own their homes and have college or graduate degrees. They are financially secure and most are professionals. Therefore, you can be sure that a couple is ready to accept a child with love, can provide for him or her, and can help fulfill all of the dreams any parent has for a child.

Couples can choose open or traditional adoption, although most choose some degree of openness. Thus, you will have the choice of an adoption plan that meets your needs. By law, each family must have regular bimonthly visits by a social worker until the adoption is finalized. Staff at Golden Cradle is available to birthparents and couples in order for them to continue contact with one another throughout their lives if desired.
